Exploring Vienna

If Vienna has never been on your “Must Visit” list I suggest you add it ASAP! This winter I had the pleasure of exploring Vienna markets, drinking the most amazing wine, and spending a week on the slopes. All of which did not disappoint!

While some clients can find winter travel intimidating, I find it to be one of the best ways to experience new places! Not only does cold weather offer fun activities you can’t experience in warmer weather, such as skiing or ice fishing, winter travel is typically more affordable and less busy than the peak summer months.

Fun Facts About Vienna

  • Vienna is nicknamed the “City of Dreams” thanks to Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, who lived and worked in Vienna for many years!

  • Vienna is home to the world’s oldest, and still operating zoo. The Vienna Zoo was built in the 1752 and has over 700 different animal species!

  • The iconic French croissant originates from Vienna. YUM!

  • Snow globes were invented in Vienna!

  • The Wiener Riesenrad, constructed in 1897, is the oldest still operating Ferris wheel in the world!

Vienna Wine Adventures

Vienna is the only capital city in the world to produce significant quantities of wine within its city limits. Home to over 1,700 acres of vineyards and 320 vintners, the Viennese love their wine. While the most popular are white wine varieties such as Grüner Veltliner, Rheinriesling, and Weißburgunder, you can also find some nice reds.

The best way to enjoy the local Viennese wine is in a heuriger (wine tavern), or by walking along Vienna’s Wine Trail.

One of my absolute favorite things to do while in Vienna is catch up with my dear friend, Stylianos Stavridis, owner of Exclusive Wine Experiences! His tastings, guided food and wine tours of the city, and day trips outside of Vienna allow my clients to truly get an insider’s guide to why Austrian wine and food are so spectacular.

Whether you consider yourself a sommelier-level wine lover or a beginner ready to explore, Stylianos has the perfect experience for you. Did I mention his epic wine cellar in the middle of the city center?? A fantastic experience all around!

Vienna Food Adventures

IT'S THE WIENERSCHNITZEL!! Or Schnitzel as you've probably heard of them. Weinerschnitzel is perhaps the most famous dish from Austria. The cooking technique of the Schnitzel dates back in Europe from around the 1st Century BC!

Traditionally, this dish is made out of veal and then is breaded using breadcrumbs, and served with lemon juice. BUT, if Veal isn't your jam, you can enjoy many types of other schnitzels from pork to chicken!

Reservations are key to enjoying really good Wienerschnitzel in Vienna. I'd highly recommend the amazing Puerstner in Vienna for some Schnitzel, potato salad, and a great beer!

Vienna Adventures

After ringing in the New Year and spending the week in Vienna we ventured out to the beautiful Dachstein Mountains! Located in central Austria there are over 72 miles of skiing possible between 7 mountains, and over 156 miles of cross country skiing. Just a quick three-hour drive from Vienna, and you've gone from an amazing city to gorgeous mountains!

Want to know the best part? Skiing in Europe does not have to break the bank!! Guess how much our lift ticket was that gave us access to 7 different mountains of slopes....€50 a day! Best of all, it can include spa days and beautiful accommodation close to or on the slopes.

Travel and adventures have so many different layers, and pushing yourself to travel under different circumstances can really open your eyes to completely new experiences. Has winter travel seemed like fun, but perhaps a bit overwhelming? Don’t worry! Explore new ways of seeing some of the most beautiful places on earth.

Biggest Hugs sent from Europe!
