Greece - The land of famous ancient philosophers, the birthplace of democracy and Olympic games, and the beautiful island of Santorini.
After spending my entire summer in Santorini I can say with 100% certainty this is a MUST on any traveler’s bucket list. From the gorgeous sunsets to the fun adventures, Santorini offers something special for everyone. Whether traveling with your partner, friends, or even solo, I can’t recommend this place enough. Here is what I fell in love with during my time in Santorini!
Santorini Sunsets
You’ve never truly experienced a sunset until you visit Santorini. I had no idea just how many there were. From the colors to the way the sun hits the water, Santorini sunsets are by far my favorite experiences throughout our entire stay.
Traveler Tip - Santorini sunsets can get crowded very easily so instead of getting caught in the tourist trap make a reservation at a rooftop bar or restaurant. Grab a seat, a cocktail, or two, and enjoy the view!
Village Hop
Santorini is made up of four main cliffside villages, all of which are accessible by car, taxi, ATV, or walk - Fia, Oia, Imerovigli, and Firostefani. Each village is known for its unique qualities such as arts, culture, views, and architecture. When staying in Santorini make sure to take advantage and travel to each one! Did I mention you can rent ATVs or take beautiful hikes? You simply can’t go wrong.
While staying in cliffside villages is great, you can actually save up to 80% of your travel funds if you travel slightly inland. The village of Emporio is local, authentic, and very traditional! Plus, with fewer people and fewer tourists, some travelers find it more enjoyable. Think about doing both to make your trip more magical, and affordable!
Black Sand Beaches
You read that right! The Black Sand Beaches of Santorini are famous, and for good reason!
Located in the lower part of the island, these beaches have unique black sand from the volcanic eruption of the Volcano of Santorini that took place in 1600 BC! This eruption changed the entire formation of the island and is the only place where you can find black beach sand in the Aegean.
The main beaches, Perissa & Perivolos, are perfect for morning yoga, cocktails, and a place to simply enjoy your time outdoors!
Freddo Espresso
Drink of choice for the summer - Freddo Espresso
It's refreshing and gives you the major jolt you might need to start your day or take a break from the afternoon heat!
-Freddo drinks come with sugar as well, so make sure you know that when ordering. I always order mine without sugar and take it black
-You drink Freddo with a straw and if you don't (like me) they think you are crazy
-Freddo's are meant to be enjoyed slowly. You'll see a local take about an hour to drink their Freddo, as I had mine gone usually in under 15 minutes, but I'm working on it!
