Explore The Lesser-Known Amalfi Coast
Consider stepping off the beaten path, you might just discover your new favorite place.
Dear Adventurers,
When you think of the Amalfi Coast, what comes to mind? Perhaps it's the bustling towns of Positano and Amalfi, with their vibrant streets, stunning views, and crystal-clear waters. These places are certainly beautiful, but there's a quieter, lesser-known side of the Amalfi Coast that deserves just as much attention. Let me take you on a journey to discover these hidden gems.
First, let's head to the charming town of Atrani.
Just a short walk from Amalfi, Atrani is the smallest town in Italy, but it packs a punch with its quaint charm. Stroll through its narrow streets, and you'll find a maze of alleys filled with colorful houses and tiny piazzas. The Church of San Salvatore de’ Birecto is a must-visit. The gorgeous bronze doors and the impressive bell tower are absolutely breathtaking! Take a moment to relax at a local café in Piazza Umberto I, where you can enjoy a cappuccino while watching the world go by. Truly, a dream!
Next, venture a little further to Ravello.
Perched high above the sea. This town is often overshadowed by its more famous neighbors, but it's a total gem! Ravello is known for its stunning gardens and breathtaking views. Visit Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo, two historic villas with gardens that seem to float above the sea. The Terrace of Infinity at Villa Cimbrone offers one of the most spectacular views on the Amalfi Coast. If you time your visit for late afternoon, you can catch this beautiful town in the golden hour. You won't forget this view!
The Path of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei) is a must-do for those who love to hike! This trail offers some of the best views of the Amalfi Coast, and it's a great way to experience the natural beauty of the area. The path starts in Bomerano and ends in Nocelle, near Positano. Along the way, you'll pass through forests, terraced vineyards, and small villages. It's a moderately challenging hike, but the views are worth every step – trust me!
If you're looking for a true escape, head to the tiny fishing village of Cetara.
This village is famous for its anchovies and tuna, and you'll find some of the best seafood on the coast here. The town is quiet and peaceful, with a lovely beach and a charming harbor. Make sure to try spaghetti con colatura di alici, a local pasta dish made with fermented anchovy sauce. It's a taste of the sea that you won't find anywhere else!
Finally, make sure to visit Minori.
Last but not least, Minori! In addition to its coastal beauty, Minori is known for its delicious pastries, so a stop at Pasticceria Sal De Riso is a must! Try the famous delizia al limone, a lemon cake that's light, refreshing, and absolutely delicious. After indulging in some sweets, take in the views on a leisurely stroll along the Lungomare, Minori's beautiful seaside promenade.
Exploring these lesser-known spots on the Amalfi Coast will give you a deeper appreciation for this stunning region. Away from the crowds, you'll find a slower pace of life and a chance to connect with the local culture and traditions.
